Bruce William Welch, the legendary guitarist of the Shadows, has died of natural causes at the age of 74. This has left the music world and fans of the band in shock and mourning for a man who helped define British rock. A true legend and character that was a part of a family of musicians, he was a part of well-known bands like Mungo Jerry and The Ventures during his early years. Then as he grew up and joined the Shadows in 1959, he was hired as a composer and session guitar player, forming what would become one of the most recognizable rock bands in history.

Bruce Welch was a British guitarist. He played both guitar and bass. He was a member of the Shadows, who, as well as having significant pop hits in the 1960s, also recorded songs for film soundtracks, including the James Bond theme, Goldfinger. His other notable credits include playing on Tommy and The Supremes’ “Caught in Love”, and for the Moody Blues with “Nights In White Satin” and “Your Wildest Dreams”. He also played with Marianne Faithfull, Nick Drake, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, Carly Simon, Manfred Mann, and more.
